A petition from Johnston to prevent his arrest

Former Minister Johnston Fernando has filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an injunction restraining his arrest in connection with the attack on the Galle Face protest site.

MP Johnston Fernando says that he has been named by the CID on the instructions of the Attorney General as a suspect in the May 09 attack on the battlefields in front of the Temple Trees in Kollupitiya and at the Galle Face.

He has also stated in his petition that he had reported the matter to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

He said in his petition that the CID was preparing to arrest him as a suspect on the advice of the Attorney General, which was against the law.

He has therefore asked the court to issue a restraining order against his arrest.

The IGP and the Director of the CID have been named as respondents in the petition.
