    Greetings from the President on Mahinda’s 132nd Anniversary

    President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that Mahinda College, which has a long and prestigious history, has contributed to the country in various fields.

    President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized this while issuing a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 132nd anniversary of Mahinda College, Galle.

    In this congratulatory message, President Ranil Wickramasinghe has wished that Mahinda College will be able to bequeath to the country a future generation of intellectuals with independent thinking that will enrich the Sri Lankan nation.

    Celebrating its 132nd anniversary today (01), Mahinda College held an all-night pirith chanting ceremony yesterday at Mahinda College’s Olcott Hall and today an Alms Giving.

    According to the instructions of the Principal of Mahinda College, Mr. Rusira Maddumahewe, school’s Buddhist Association, academic staff, students, former students, parents and non-academic staff members have organized these events.

    In conjunction with the Pirith Chanting Ceremony held last night, Mahinda College Old Boys’ Association’s Additional President Vijith Lokunarangoda and Secretary Kamal Nishantha conducted the ‘Mihindu Maha Baath Dansala’ in front of the school for the first time in history. Thousands of local residents and the Mahinda community have joined for that.

    This series of tributes was organized to add blessings and in memory of the entire Mahinda community including Col. Henry Steel Olcott, the former founder of the school, Bowles Daly, the first principal and F. L. Woodward, the founder of the school’s renaissance, and the former principals, former managers including Thomas de Silva Amarasuriya Muhandiram, Henry Amarasuriya and H.W. Amarasuriya, Mrs. D. F. de Silva and members of the Weerasiri family who donated the Dawatagahawaththa land to the school, the academic staff, officers of the Old Boys’ Association, former students, current students and non-academic staff members.
