    Govt to conduct a census on Distressed Children

    The Government has decided to conduct a census of children in Sri Lanka who are in distress due to any reason in the starting from Nuwara Eliya area today.

    The government is also focusing on implementing a separate program for street children.

    This census includes children who have lost their parents, children who do not go to school, children who have been subjected to incidents of abuse and violence.

    State Minister Piyal Nishantha commented on this program.

    “We are launching a pilot project. Its hope is to focus more on cases of orphans, out-of-school children, abuse and violence.

    Accordingly, the purpose of this is to provide the necessary solutions. We are also working to implement a successful program for street children. The Regional and District Coordinating Committees must set aside time for these children.

    Especially if a woman is used as a housemaid, the recommendation of the Grama Niladhari, the recommendation of the Women Development Officer and the recommendation of the Child Rights Officer needed and must be registered in the Divisional Secretariat. Some of the existing rules were not implemented later.
