    Inflation has come down this month

    According to the Department of Census and Statistics, inflation which was continuously increasing rapidly has decreased slightly by this month.

    This is confirmed when considering the Colombo Consumer Price Index for the month of October released by that department.

    The overall inflation rate, measured on the basis of annual point inflation, fell to 66.0% in October 2022 from 69.8% last September.

    According to the Colombo Consumer Price Index, the food inflation in the last month of September was 94.9% and it has come down to 85.6% by this month.

    The price of goods in the non-food category was also 57.6% last month. It has decreased to 56.3% by now.

    The transport and hotel sectors may see a reduction in inflation this month.

    However, inflation in the fields of clothing, footwear, alcohol, tobacco products, communication, cultural sectors, etc. has increased this month compared to last month.
