President instructs to find out whether the revision of the Medical Council’s list of foreign universities was unfair to the students

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Minister of Health to take action to find out whether a group of Sri Lankan students have been subjected to injustice due to several foreign universities offering medical degrees not accepting the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

The President has given these instructions focusing on the issues raised by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday.

Mr. Ranatunga told the Cabinet that students who had qualified for medical degrees from medical faculties in Russia, China and Belarus had lost that opportunity and that the issue had arisen due to the removal of those countries from the list of foreign medical universities recognized by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
