    Thieves who raided Ruwan Wijewardene’s house were caught

    Three priceless paintings and a watch worth Rs. 1,312,500 were stolen from the private residence of United National Party Deputy Leader Mr. Ruwan Wijewardena at Hyde Park Corner, Colombo 02. Two persons who aided and abetted have also been arrested.

    The theft took place on February 27. The watch which was in the bedroom and 06 priceless paintings painted in the year 1807 were stolen.

    Regarding this theft, Mr. Ruwan Wijewardena was reported to the Kompanyaweediya police.

    Then he told the servants of his house that if anyone stole these items, they should immediately return them.

    About 10 days later, two people on a motorcycle had handed over the stolen paintings to a house guard at night.

    The Colombo Crime Division says that those persons were identified and arrested during a lengthy investigation.

    Investigations have revealed that all three suspects are relatives and the paintings were brought back and handed over as they were unable to sell them.

    The Colombo Crime Division stated that the suspects are residents of Thalapathpitiya, Homagama and Pitakotte.
