The mayor of Kurunegala, Mr. Thushara Sanjeewa Witharana, who is said to have worked to pass the defeated budget in violation of the Municipal Council Ordinance, has been removed from that position.
In accordance with the instructions of the Governor of the North West Province Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karnagoda, issued the relevant gazette announcement yesterday (21).
The charge against him is that trying to pass the defeated budget report submitted for the year 2023 of the Kurunegala Municipality in violation of the Municipal Ordinance Act.
Accordingly, it is considered that Mr. Thushara Sanjeeva Witharana has been removed from the position of Kurunegala Mayor from December 31, 2022 and the position of Kurunegala Municipality Mayor is vacant with immediate effect.
