A special counter will be opened from next Monday for those who need emergency passports

Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara says that a special counter will be opened in the Immigration and Emigration Department from next Monday for workers who are expecting to go abroad for work.

Due to heavy traffic at the Battaramulla Immigration Office, those seeking a new passport have to wait for almost two months to book a date and a number.

As the workers who are expecting urgent foreign travel will be greatly inconvenienced by it, steps have been taken to open this special counter according to a special request from the Immigration and Emigration Controller.

According to that, the special window will be opened from the 22nd, and after submitting all the documents related to travelling abroad along with the letter from the Foreign Employment Bureau, facilities will be provided to get new passports quickly from this counter.

The minister further said that this new window will be opened according to the powers of the immigration controller.
