The Cabinet agrees to allow a specific group to import vehicles

Two proposals submitted by the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara to the Cabinet to encourage bringing remittances of Sri Lankans living abroad legally to the country through the banking system have been approved today.

One of the proposals is to introduce a new duty-free allowance based on the amount of money they legally sent into the country.

The other proposal is to introduce a license to import an electric vehicle with a value equal to 50 percent of the amount of money sent to the country legally by expatriate workers and Sri Lankans.

The minister points out that after several weeks of discussions with various parties, the agreement of the cabinet was obtained.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Power and Energy has also expressed his agreement to the proposal made in the Cabinet to provide a fuel license to tourists, expatriate workers and dual citizens who make payments in US dollars at the airport.
