    Siyambalapitiya is re-elected as the deputy speaker

    Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was re-elected as the Deputy Speaker.

    That is by gaining 83 votes more than the candidate Imitiaz Bakeer, presented by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya

    Imtiaz Bakeer Makar received 65 votes while Ranjith Siyambalapitiya received 148 votes.

    Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated that 03 votes have been spoiled.

    Accordingly, 216 votes have been cast today to elect the Deputy Speaker.

    Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said in Parliament yesterday that Ranjith Siyambalapitiya’s resignation letter had been submitted to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the President had informed him that the letter had been accepted.

    Accordingly, it was decided yesterday to elect a new Speaker today. Accordingly, after the sitting of Parliament today, Kegalle District Parliamentarian Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was nominated for the post of Deputy Speaker by Nimal Siripala de Silva representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party from the independent group of the government. Susil Premajayantha seconded the motion.

    Ranjith Siyambalapitiya’s candidature has the full support of the ruling party, said G. L. Peiris.

    Ranjith Maddumabandara nominated Imtiaz Bakeer Marker, Member of Parliament for the Samagi Jana Balawega. Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella seconded the motion.
