A protest was organized by members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in Arachchikattuwa, Chilaw on the 5th evening demanding the arrest of Jagath Samantha Perera, the former chairman and current member of the Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, the brother of state minister Sanath Nishantha Perera.
Jagath Samantha Perera along with others had broken into four houses in the Arachchikattuwa area on the 2nd and caused damage.
Two persons were injured in the attack and were admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital.
Arachchikattuwa Police arrested two suspects in connection with the attack and produced them before the Chilaw District Court on the evening of the 4th. They have been remanded till the 8th of this month.
The protestants said that the police had not arrested the brother of State Minister Sanath Nishantha Perera who was involved in this incident.
Namal Karunaratne of the JVP also joined the protest.
