Former Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Senior Minister and Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) said at a media briefing today that the party had rejected the President’s request to be re-elected to the Cabinet.

The media briefing was held at the SLFP Headquarters.

Mr. de Silva said that his party’s parliamentary group had informed the President that the decision taken by the party to function independently in Parliament could not be changed and that the people’s demand could not be rejected.

Mr. Silva also said that the SLFP would support any move by the government to amend the 20th Amendment to the Constitution and abolish the executive presidency.

He further requested the President to present a program to resolve the current crisis in the country.

    1. We have seen the drama unfolding at the Parliament repeatedly. This Tragedy-comedy will continue until we carry of a change in the system.
We need a people friendly constitution, change of electoral system, where accountability, transparency, and meritocracy will prevail. From the day the Great JR introduced it, abuse began, He taught us how to kick out the Minister of Justice, how to hijack Bikkhu demo at Thummulla Junction, how to reward police office for breaking up of a demo by renowned politicians. The successors improved on the versions and the culmination was the coming of Goathabaya. Yet we are dancing with this constitution means we are mentally sick.

    What do you think?
