Bad news for those who don’t pay electricity bills

The Public Utilities Commission says it will take action against consumers who do not pay their electricity bills.

Accordingly, an order will be issued tomorrow (17) to charge them extra or to disconnect the electricity supply to them, said its chairman Janaka Ratnayake.

He also said that the value of unpaid bills of CEB and LECO customers is Rs. 50 billion, while appearing on a program on a private television channel.

He also said that the Ceylon Electricity Board is planning to import and store fuel oil and diesel at once for a period of 45 days.

With the capacity of reservoirs associated with hydropower plants falling to 47%, the amount of hydropower added to the national grid has now been reduced to 25%.

Kelanitissa, sojitz as well as small power plants in Matugama, Kolonnawa, and Thulhiriya are currently inactive due to the diesel crisis.
