The National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) has forecast heavy rains in some parts of the country today as well and urges the public to take necessary precautions.
The Met Department predicts heavy showers of more than 75 mm in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North Western provinces and in some places in the Galle and Matara districts.
4382 persons belonging to 1142 families have been affected due to the heavy rains that have affected the island in the last few days.
Five people have died and one is still missing, the National Disaster Management Center said.
646 houses have been damaged. 251 persons belonging to 63 families are being held in 9 shelters and relief is being provided.
