Azad Salley went to the court in a wheelchair

The indictment against the former Governor of the Western Province Azad Salley was filed in the Colombo High Court today (25) and he was produced to the court in a wheelchair by prison officials.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja today on charges of inciting rivalries between religious groups.

There, the indictment papers were handed over to the defendant by the Attorney General.

The High Court judge then adjourned the case ruling the trial to begin on November 2.

Witnesses were summoned to appear in court that day.

President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne, appearing for Azad Sally, said he is seeking the Attorney General’s decision on the release of his client on bail.

Senior State Counsel Wasantha Perera, appearing for the Attorney General, stated that he is opposed to the bail application at that time.
