A pregnant mother who was receiving treatment at the Ampara General Hospital had given birth to four twins and all four of her children had died at birth, hospital sources said.
She is a resident of Vijithapura village in Ampara and had been receiving treatment at the Ampara General Hospital for several days for a corona infection and later recovered and returned home.
She was later hospitalized again due to sudden illness and was referred for childbirth.
A spokesman for the Ampara General Hospital said that two boys and two girls had given birth and all four had died during childbirth.
He said that he suspects all of her children may have died as a result of complications from the covid infection.
The Ampara Covid Committee stated that the bodies of the children and the mother were cremated under the supervision of the health department.
