The stories spreading about the Kandy presidential Palace are false – President’s Office

The President’s Office has strongly rejected the attempt to disseminate false information that is circulating in social media regarding the diplomatic event held at the Presidential Palace in Kandy yesterday (02).

Handing over the credentials of the 11 newly appointed ambassadors and 6 high commissioners to Sri Lanka to the President happened there.

The office said that some people have criticized the fact that the diplomats were taken in cars with special security from the Sri Lankan police for this occasion.

Several special official activities, including the programs of the 75th National Independence Day celebration on February 4th, were organized in Kandy under the chairmanship of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

Simultaneously, arrangements were made to hold this program at the Kandy Presidential Palace, the President’s Office says.

Respecting the tradition of the civilized countries of the world, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations established in 1961, it is the accountability and responsibility of the Government of Sri Lanka to give diplomatic recognition to ambassadors and high commissioners when they come to present their credentials.

In such a setting, the President’s Office strongly rejects the attempt to disseminate false information that misleads the public.
