Vaccine inequality, which has a global impact on the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, has created a “two-way epidemic,” says Tedros Adhanom, head of the World Health Organization.
“More and more we see this as a two-way epidemic,” Tedros told reporters at a news conference in Geneva.
Six months after the first COVID-19 vaccine was given, high-income countries have delivered nearly 44% of all world-produced doses to the public.
Low-income countries have vaccinated only 0.4%.
“The saddest thing about this statistic is that even after a few months it has not changed,” said Tedros, head of the World Health Organization.
