Local Government Minister Janaka Vakkambura has said in Parliament today (06) that 19 garbage dumps have been created across the country.
He also mentioned that this situation has been created due to the garbage disposal methods by the local government authorities.
The Minister of State stated this while replying to a question asked by Mr. Chaminda Wijesiri, Badulla District Councilor of Samagi Jana Balawegaya Party.
The state minister said that since four of the garbage dumps are located near the forests, the ecosystem is seriously damaged and he also mentioned that there are currently nine composting yards of the local government bodies in operation.
Mr. Wakkambura further said that steps have been taken to inform the local government authorities regarding these garbage heaps.
