On the instructions of President Ranil Wickramasinghe, the program of providing welfare benefits to 3,100,000 low-income families in Sri Lanka will be started immediately, says the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Shehan Semasinghe.

The Minister of State also said that this program has been planned to cover all the districts of the country under the theme “Don’t leave anyone behind” (“කිසිවෙක් අතහැරෙන්න දෙන්න එපා”).

Under this, families or individuals benefiting under Samurdhi, elderly persons, disabled persons and kidney disease living assistance program, people who are on the waiting lists expecting subsidies as well as people who are affected by the current economic crisis and who are expecting government welfare benefits will be entitled to these benefits, the state minister revealed.

Mr. Semasinghe also said that applications from benefit candidates have been invited, and the deadline has been extended to October 15.

Anyone can download the relevant application from the website of the Welfare Benefits Board (www.wbb.gov.lk).
