The Sevanagala Sugarcane Farmers’ Association says that they will withdraw from sugarcane cultivation if the price increase of Rs. 2 per kilo is not given.
Its chairman D. D. Jayatilleke says that if the price of a kilo of sugarcane is not increased in the face of the rising cost of living, they will abandon sugarcane cultivation this time.
Although discussions were held with State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura regarding this, no proper reply has been received so far, he said.
