Indonesian volcano erupts – 13 died so far

At least 13 people have died and at least 100 others injured in a volcanic eruption on the Indonesian island of Java.

The Indonesian National Disaster Management Board said two pregnant mothers were among those injured in the eruption and more than 1,000 lost their homes.

The eruption of the volcano started yesterday and the surrounding area was completely covered in ash due to the massive eruption of ash, local media reported.

The government says about 300 families have been evacuated from their homes near the volcano and are currently being held in schools and churches.

Semeru Volcano is the tallest volcano in Indonesia and is 12,000 feet high. The volcano erupted last January, but no damage was done. There are about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
