This is how the Rs. 5,000 Samurdhi allowance is paid

Shehan Semasinghe, Minister of State for Samurdhi, Home Economics and Microfinance Self-Employment said that the government will provide Rs. 5,000 allowance to families who have lost their livelihoods due to travel restrictions commencing from tomorrow.

The Minister of State said that this allowance of Rs. 5,000 will be paid first to Samurdhi recipients and families receiving other government assistance.

He also said that if a family receives an allowance from the government, only the arrears will be paid up to Rs. 5,000.

I.E. if a family receives only Rs. 3,500 a month as a Samurdhi allowance, that family will receive only Rs. 1,500 which adds upto a Samurdhi allowance of Rs. 5,000.

This is the fourth time that the Rs. 5,000 allowance will be given to families who lose their livelihood due to covid and the government has allocated Rs. 3,000 million for this purpose, he said.
