The All Ceylon Small Industries Association says that the prices of local readymade garments could increase by 50% by the New Year season.
Niruksha Kumara, the national organizer of the union points out that the price of textiles has already increased by 35% due to the devaluation of the rupee.
He also said that in the face of the change in the exchange rate, local garment factories are facing a dilemma of not being able to rely on profits.
Mr. Niruksha Kumara further stated that due to this problems also have arisen in paying the monthly salary to the employees.
