“Disaster management in the country has been inactive for 1 1/2 years” – Sajith

The Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa stated in Parliament today (17) that the whole country is facing the consequences of rejecting the opinion of experts and acting arbitrarily.

He pointed out that all should unite to save lives by realizing the dire situation Sri Lanka is facing now and even during the next year as well and that the rulers should act with heart and soul at this moment.

The Leader of the Opposition said that he had told the government that he had been ridiculed for what he had said since then by the government and that the insult had entered the country today in the guise of death.

He said governments should take immediate action to seek support from foreign embassies at the diplomatic level and that the disaster management mechanism, which has been inactive for a year and a half, should be reactivated and take the advantage of it in the event of a disaster.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the health sector, the security forces as well as other sectors of the public service, which are enduring all pressures at this critical time, should be given special recognition and a proper appreciation should be added to their commitment.

He said that debt management should be done immediately at this juncture and if not, Sri Lanka could go bankrupt and such a situation should not be allowed to arise.

He said that he did not have the political agenda to seize power after the country went bankrupt and that the country should be protected before entering politics.
