“SL Police is acting like private Mercenaries, 15 activists are being hunted” – FUTA

The Federation of University Teachers ‘Associations (FUTA) alleges that the Sri Lanka Police is hunting down 15 activists, including Dr. Mahin Mendis of the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA).

Police are trying to arrest the suspects for allegedly damaging public property during a protest march and rally in Colombo on the 3rd, said Rohan Laksiri, secretary of the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations.

He said that the Sri Lanka Police had now become private mercenaries of the ruling party.

He also said that the government has embarked on an effort to suppress the activists who are fulfilling their social responsibility in the face of the Kothlawala Act and the teacher-principal salary crisis.

He called on the people to unite to transform the police, which operates on the personal interests of the current regime, into a civilized institution.
