This is not the time to reduce Covid repression in Sri Lanka – WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Sri Lanka says this is not the time to reduce Sri Lanka’s response to the Covid epidemic.

They point out that Sri Lanka has gone through interesting milestones in the past few weeks with regard to the repression of Covid.

However, the office emphasizes that Sri Lanka is currently in a very dangerous situation. The office also said that all should work together to control Covid by following all public health and social measures and supporting frontline workers.

“World remains in a very dangerous situation. More cases have been reported so far in this year than in the whole of 2020. No country should assume it’s out of the woods, no matter its vaccination rate. So far no variant has emerged that significantly undermined their efficacy of vaccines than diagnostics of the reputed. But there is no guarantee that it will remain the case. This virus is changing constantly. Future changes could render our tool ineffective and drag us back to square one. Every country can do more. Increase surveilanance, testing, sequencing, sharing information, surge supplies needed to protect health workers, fight misinformation and disinformation, empower people and communities to play their part, implement national vaccination strategies, vaccinate those at more risk etc. Pandemic is not over and it will not be over until and unless transmission is controlled in every last counrtry.” said Tedros Adhanom the Director general of the World Health Organization.
