Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said that the government is focusing on imposing a tax on goods imported from abroad through the internet.
Responding to a question raised by Parliamentarian Mohamed Muzamil, the Minister said in Parliament that the methods implemented in other countries are being studied in this regard.
He pointed out that nowadays online sales platforms have grown on a large scale and therefore special attention should be paid to such trading platforms.
The Minister was responding to a statement made by the Member of Parliament that when the same product is taxed in the local market, while it is not taxed when imported online.
