The Final Decision on the Electricity Tariffs will be Given Today

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is scheduled to give its decision today (February 28) regarding the electricity tariff reduction proposal presented by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

The Sectoral Monitoring Committee on Mitigation of the Impact of the Economic Crisis had recommended a 20% reduction in electricity tariffs.

The Public Utilities Commission will convene a meeting today to decide on the tariff revision proposal submitted to the Commission on February 22 by the CEB.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera told Parliament last week that the CEB expects to reduce at least the increased fees and percentage in October 2023.

In October last year, electricity tariffs were hiked by 18% for households and religious places, 12% for industries and hotels, and 24% for government institutions.
