Pathum Nishanka, who broke the record for the most ODI runs scored by a Sri Lankan cricketer in ODI cricket, which was previously held by Sanath Jayasuriya, scored an unbeaten 210 runs against Afghanistan at the Pallakele International Stadium today (09).
Pathum Nishanka broke the record of 189 runs scored by Sanath Jayasuriya against India 24 years ago i.e. in the year 2000. Sanath Jayasuriya, who watched Pathum passing this record live from the Pallekele Stadium, could be seen applauding and congratulating Pathum Nishanka.
Pathum Nisshanka, who passed the records of other high scorers TM Dilshan (161), Kumar Sangakkara (169), Upul Tharanga (174) and Sanath Jayasuriya (189) got 210* runs.
Due to Pathum’s strong innings, the Sri Lankan team scored 381 runs for 3 wickets. This is also the fourth-highest score scored by the Sri Lankan team as a team. Only 398/5 against Kenya, 411/8 against India and 443/9 against Netherlands are beyond that.
