Chennai wins the IPL title for the 5th time

Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and a four off the last two balls to help Chennai Super Kings win the Indian Premier League title today (30).

With this win, Chennai equaled Mumbai Indians’ record for most IPL titles.

Sai Sudarshan led Gujarat Titans to 214/4 with a 47-ball 96. The 23-year-old Sai included 8 fours and 6 sixes in his innings.

Earlier, his brilliant opening partner Shubman Gill scored 39 off 20 balls and Wriddhiman Saha scored 54 off 39 balls.

However, the match was abandoned after the third ball of the first over of the CSK innings, with heavy rain pelting the stadium.

Due to this, the match was limited to 15 overs and CSK’s target was revised to 171 runs.

Big knocks from Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu helped CSK win, but each time it was Mohit Sharma who picked up important wickets making the match indecisive.

Mohit bowled the last over, and Chennai needed 10 runs off the last two balls to win.

But Ravindra Jadeja hit a second-last-ball six and a last-ball four to give CSK a 5-wicket win and their fifth title.

The Chennai team that won the championship this year included two Sri Lankan players and it is notable that fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana and spin bowler Mahesh Theekshana played in the final.
