A warning to Maithri in court

It is reported that Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage had warned former President Maithripala Sirisena today (27) regarding an incident where the defendant Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, did not stand on the defender’s dock when a case was called in open court.

The private case filed against former President Maithripala Sirisena before the Fort Magistrate’s Court challenging his failure to prevent the attack in 2019 as the Minister of Defense and as the Executive President of the country despite receiving intelligence information that there would be suicide attacks on Easter Sunday.

When the case was called before the open court today, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena remained outside the dock without entering the dock.

At that time, the lawyer who represented the plaintiffs had shown their objection to the former president’s actions.

The President’s lawyer, who appeared for the defense, pointed out that since the Court of Appeal has suspended further steps in this case, he did not enter the dock.

At this time, the magistrate said that he has received an order to prevent further proceedings in the case until the Court of Appeal gives an order, but it is not an order not to enter the dock.

Accordingly, the magistrate has ordered the court interpreter to announce the defendant’s name again related to that case.

After the case was called for the second time, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena entered the dock.

The magistrate has warned the former president, that a suspect should be in the defendant’s dock henceforth when a case is being recalled.

The magistrate ordered the case to be called again on March 17.

This case was filed by Reverend Cyril Gamini and a person who lost a leg in the suicide attack on St. Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade.
