President asks Election commission to reach a unanoimous decision

Four members of the Election Commission met President Ranil Wickramasinghe at the Presidential Secretariat today (05) evening.

Regarding the election, the President has said that the members of the Election Commission have four opinions about the commission’s work. First, the four of you should act with unanimous majority consent and stated that the commission’s independence has been given to the commission.

President assured them that there were no obstacles to their ability to operate independently.

If necessary, Mr. Wickramasinghe has also informed the group to make inquiries in writing to the Attorney General. The President has further said that the Attorney General’s Department will work to provide legal support for that.

The Attorney General, in turn, requested to be informed of any issues or concerns related to the commission’s work and the conditions necessary for a free and peaceful election.

According to political sources, the discussion ended without agreement due to 4 members of the Election Commission having different opinions.
