Junior staff at government hospitals will go on a token strike next Wednesday (9) over a number of demands, including the confirmation of casual and substitute employees in the health service and the payment of a covid risk allowance to health workers.
The General Secretary of the United Health Workers Union Ven. Tampitiye Sugathananda Thero stated that the strike will be launched demanding immediate solutions to the problems; providing permanent job contracts for casual and substitute health-sector employees who have been working for more than two years, providing covid risk allowance to all Health Workers, providing transport facilities, vaccinations and safety equipment.
Accordingly, members of the junior health staff of all hospitals islandwide, including the Colombo National Hospital, will be on strike from 8 am to 12 noon on Wednesday.
