    The Select Committee gives its final report on the changes in the electoral system

    The final report of the Parliamentary Select Committee was tabled in Parliament recently (22) to identify amendments to the elections and electoral structure and to make necessary amendments in this regard.

    That is by the chairman of that committee Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, and the Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena.

    It includes a number of recommendations, including new proposals for a mixed electoral system, strengthening the representation of women and youth, early voting, electronic voting, shortening of election time, prevention of misuse of state resources for electioneering, and acceptance of political parties.

    This report contains 25 observations and 15 recommendations regarding local government, provincial council and parliamentary elections.
