The Italian government has decided to provide an emergency grant of Rs. 125 million for the purchase of essential food and medical equipment for Sri Lanka.
The Euro 341,115 donation will be made through the World Health Organization’s Italian Bilateral Emergency Services Fund.
This will enable the Ministry of Health to make payments directly to foreign suppliers through its supply chain process to procure medicines for Sri Lanka, which is facing a shortage of drugs due to the current exchange crisis.
Italy has previously extended its support to Sri Lanka in emergencies, including the tsunami.
