    Opportunity for industrialists to import fuel

    The Ministry of Energy is focusing on issuing licenses in the manner that specific sectors of the economy can import and use the amounts of fuel they need.

    Cabinet approval has been granted to amend the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) Act No. 33 of 2002 to enable licenses to be issued for this purpose.

    The statement issued by the Cabinet Office in this regard is as follows.

    As fuel is essential for all economic activities in the country, it has been identified that it would be appropriate to issue licenses to selected specific sectors of the economy to individually import and use the quantities of fuel they require.

    Accordingly, The proposal made by Hon. Minister of Energy to direct the Legislature to prepare a bill to amend the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) Act, No. 33 of 2002 so as to enable licenses to formally identified sectors for the importation of petroleum was approved by the Cabinet.
