It is estimated that about 6 million people in Sri Lanka receive Samurdhi allowances and it is costed around Rs. 62 million per month.
The data was presented to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa by officials during a progress review meeting of the Ministry of Economic Policy and Plan Implementation at Temple Trees this afternoon (25).
At present the total population of the country is 22 million.
The other thing that was revealed here was that allowances are received by people who do not want it than those who deserve it.
It was revealed that there were data for only 46 indicators measuring the Sustainable Development Progress and now it has been increased to 105 indicators.
Sri Lanka is currently ranked 10th in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of data, officials said.
