Teachers’ unions and trade unions in several other sectors have declared the 9th of this month as National Protest Day.
Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, said that members of a number of trade unions, including teachers’ unions, oil, ports, electricity, railways and postal unions, were staging protests in several places across the country demanding the elimination of salary anomalies for teachers and principals.
He said that teachers and principals of all schools across the country would also hold protests in front of the Zonal Education Office at 2 pm on the same day.
Meanwhile, teachers and principals of the Colombo district will gather near the Lipton Roundabout in Colombo at 2 pm on the same day to protest, said Joseph Stalin.
