A group of doctors from the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has informed the Director of the Angoda Mental Health Institute to take immediate action as the spread of Covid disease has reached a critical stage in the hospital.
They point out that there are about 380 psychiatric patients in the hospital’s intermediate home and it has been confirmed that about 100 of them are infected with corona.
The letter states that 65 Covid patients are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
They point out that many patients are very old and in serious condition, and that the shortage of medical staff has exacerbated the situation.
Even though the Intermediate Home should have seven medical officers, only four medical officers are present, making it very difficult to manage these patients with Covid infections.

Their letter further stated that as a serious crisis has arisen due to a Lack of facilities, existing severe stress, an increase of several times the capacity of covid patients, and immediate action should be taken to appoint separate medical officers to the Corona unit and to re-employ the minimum number of medical officers which should be seven.
