Chilaw Police have arrested two persons for posing as intelligence officers of the Ministry of Defense and demanding Rs. 15,000 per month from a person who is engaged in illicit liquor trafficking.
Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Attorney-at-Law Ajith Rohana stated that the two were arrested at the time of receiving the money following a tip off lodged by the smuggler.
Mr. Ajith Rohana stated that the two persons are members of the Army and will be produced before court today.
Meanwhile, a man has been arrested in the Seeduwa area for extorting Rs. 80,000 from a person involved in illegal drug trafficking, said Ajith Rohana.
The Army Commander General Shavendra Silva stated that action will be taken against these persons in accordance with military law and that steps will be taken to expel them from the Army.
