It has been decided to give a discount to customers who do not take shopping bags or polythene bags.
Recently, the shop owners were called to the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Sustainable Development to make a decision regarding the polythene bags issued by the supermarkets.
Its chairman, Gampaha District Member of Parliament, Engineer Ajith Mannapperuma, said that this agreement had been reached at that time.
Accordingly, he states that the supermarket owners will be called to the committee on the 21st to reach a final decision regarding the amount of the discount.
He added that the aim of implementing this program is to protect the environment by discouraging the use of polythene and plastic.
