Arjuna Leaves Office as Chairman of New Interim Governing Body Following Court Order

The Court of Appeal has issued interim orders for the next 14 days regarding the suspension of the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute and the appointment of an interim control committee by the Sports Minister to manage its affairs.

The Court of Appeal has made this order after considering a writ petition submitted by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Shammi Silva.

The orders have been issued by the Court of Appeal Judge Bench consisting of Mr. Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne and Mr. Vikum Kaluarachchi.

Accordingly, an interim order has been issued, preventing the implementation of the gazette notification issued by the sports minister appointing an interim governing body, suspending the activities of the Sri Lanka Cricket.

The second was issued preventing the members of the newly appointed Cricket Interim Board of Control led by Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga from holding those positions.

The other restriction is to prevent the Sri Lanka Cricket officials including the petitioner from interfering with their work.

It has been issued to the respondents including the sports minister.

After this court order, Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga, the chairman of the new interim governing body, who was working in Sri Lanka Cricket, has left the office.

However, the cabinet sub-committee appointed by the Cabinet yesterday to look into the problems that have arisen in relation to Sri Lanka Cricket continues to operate.

    1. This post office should be developed and retained as an operating “Heritage” Post Office. It will be a leading tourist attraction the world over. Perhaps the Postal Dept could give it on a lease to the Pvt sector to manage it. It will certainly be a money spinner and Win/Win for all

    What do you think?
