“Don’t Sell Property to Increase State Revenue.. Tax Temples That Get Crores of Revenue”

Vanusi Rahula Thero, the founder of the National Namal Uyana, is asking President Ranil Wickramasinghe to get a part of the money from the temples that earn crores of revenue or to set up a program to tax those temples, if it is necessary to increase the government’s income without selling the ancient buildings like the post office in Nuwara Eliya.

He recalled that when the country went bankrupt, the gold and money in the temples of Thailand were offered to the government by the monks.

But since such a thing will never happen in Sri Lanka, Rahul thero also told the President that it is appropriate for the government to take a part of the money from the temples that generate a lot of income for a short period of time.

Vanavasi Rahula Thero, who made a statement to the media in this regard,

“I saw the President go to Nuwara Eliya and ask for the old post office to be built as a hotel. He also told a story that if it is not given, the postmaster will have to go home. However, I would like to make a better proposal than selling such government properties. If you want to increase the government’s income without selling the ancient buildings like the post office in Nuwara Eliya, get a part of the money from the temples that generate crores of revenue or set up a program to tax those temples.”
