The Registration of SLC Suspends – A new Interim Board chaired by Arjuna

The registration of the Sri Lanka Cricket has been suspended since yesterday (05).

A new interim control board has been appointed to carry out its activities.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has announced this by issuing a special gazette.

The minister says that this step was taken in accordance with the powers assigned to him because it is necessary to investigate and take appropriate action regarding the corruption, misconduct, irregularities and dereliction of duties and responsibilities committed by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket as revealed by the Special Audit Report related to the 2022 International Cricket Council T20 World Cup (Men) Cricket Tournament and to provide opportunities to carry out the necessary legal measures independently in a transparent and reliable manner.

In order to carry out the powers and duties of the Sri Lanka Cricket properly and efficiently, an interim control board has been appointed to run the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute, the national association for cricket, until an official election is held or until further notice.

This board is expected to conduct a formal investigation into the irregularities of the Sri Lanka Cricket and submit a report to the Minister.

The board appointed by the minister chaired by former cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga consists of the following members.

Arjuna Ranatunga (Chairman), retired Supreme Court Justice S. I. Imam, Retired Supreme Court Judge Rohini Marasinghe, Retired High Court Judge Irangani Perera, H.K. Upali Dharmadasa, Lawyer Rakitha Nirmala Rajapaksa, M.H. Jamaldeen is included in that panel.

The Minister says that as it appears that the trust of the public has been broken in the Sri Lankan Cricket Institute and that Sri Lankan cricket has been brought into disrepute.

The Minister has mentioned that this step was taken by acting in accordance with the Sports Law and basic legal principles in order to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to him as the Minister of Sports to suggest appropriate measures to remedy the same.
