2023 A/L exam dates will be released next week

The Minister of Education, Susil Premajayantha, has revealed that the Examination Commissioner will officially announce the revised dates for the 2023 A/L (Advanced Level) examination within the upcoming week. The 2023 A/L examination was initially scheduled for November.

Minister Premajayantha made this special announcement during a parliamentary session held on the 21st.

He highlighted the need to consider various potential scenarios that might arise from postponing the 2023 A/L examination to January 2024. Such a delay would subsequently impact the 2023 GCE O/L (Ordinary Level) Examination, originally set for March and April 2024, necessitating a shift to May and June 2024. Consequently, the release of the 2023 A/L Results would occur in July 2024.

In light of this timeline, applicants planning to sit for the 2024 GCE A/L examination would require additional preparation time. As a result, the 2024 A/L exam might face a delay, possibly extending until December or January 2025. Such delays could further delay the correction of the current backwardness of the education system.

Moreover, the irregularity of school examinations could disrupt school schedules and impact the admission process for first-grade students. The delay in conducting the A/L examination might also lead to classroom space issues, with both Grade 11 and Grade 12 students occupying educational facilities simultaneously. Additionally, a postponed A/L results release would subsequently delay university admissions.

These considerations underscore the complexity of rescheduling educational examinations and their broader implications on the education system and student progression.
