What could happen to vehicles that don’t have a revenue licence for 5 years?

Motor Transport Commissioner General Nishantha Anuruddha said today (08) that vehicles that have not obtained revenue licenses for more than 5 years will be blacklisted and removed from the information system of the Motor Transport Department.

Regarding the relevant decision, he also mentioned:

There are nearly 80 lakh vehicles registered in our country. However, when we searched in the past, only about 6 million vehicles were registered under the QR code. Accordingly, nearly 2 million vehicles are not registered to get fuel.

After conducting a study on this, we are currently carrying out necessary measures to collect information from all the provincial councils regarding the vehicles that have not taken the revenue license for more than 5 years. We have requested the relevant provincial councils to provide information.

Accordingly, we will discuss with the Hon’ble Minister and the Hon’ble Minister of State and take further action. If there is no revenue license for more than 5 years, those vehicles should be deregistered. Secondly, the motor transport inspectors at the district level will search and remove those vehicles from the information system.

However, 5 years ago, the former Transport Commissioner General Jagath Chandrasiri also made a similar statement in the media, but until now no information report has been submitted about the number of vehicles blacklisted and the number of vehicles removed from the information system.

Newswave’s attempts to contact the Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Transport to get information about it was also unsuccessful.
