Several people infected with the Delta variant of covid virus, which is spreading rapidly in India these days, have been found in the Dematagoda area in Colombo.
Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi has instructed all health officials of the Ministry of Health to take all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the area.
The issue of the spread of this new virus was discussed at length at an active review committee meeting on Covid-19 control held at the Ministry of Health yesterday (17).
Accordingly, those areas will be isolated and samples of the virus will be taken to carry out delta virus tests, follow up on those who have had contact with the infected and it was also decided to take steps to conduct specialized investigations to see if the delta variant is present in other parts of the island where the number of infected people is currently high.
