The Department of Immigration and Emigration says that the duties of the officer who computerized the data have been suspended in relation to the reason behind the diversion of MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage from Katunayake Airport, who was trying to go abroad.
The Criminal Investigation Department and the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Forum have started investigations regarding this incident.
Mr. Aluthgamage, who arrived at the airport on the 10th midnight for a foreign trip, was informed that a flight ban had been imposed, preventing him from leaving the airport, and was not allowed to take off.
The department points out that this situation has arisen due to the inclusion of another person’s data in relation to the MP’s passport data into the department’s data system.
Due to this, the duties of the officer who entered the wrong data into the information system have already been suspended and the Department of Immigration says that they regret the inconvenience caused to the MP.
