The Election Commission states that the Government Printing Officer announced that the ballot papers required for issuing postal votes can be printed and handed over to the Election Commission within 05 days.
Apart from that, she has informed that other ballot papers can also be printed and delivered within 20-25 days. According to the court decision SC/FR/69/2023 related to the holding of the election, these agreements have been reached in the discussion regarding the removal of the existing obstacles so that the poll can be held on April 25, 2023.
Accordingly, the Election Commission has informed the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to obtain the necessary funds considering the judgment related to the printing of ballot papers.
However, it was reported by the media that the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance has assigned the Cabinet and the Minister of Finance to take the relevant decision.
Meanwhile, the Senior Deputy Inspector General (Elections) has been informed to inform the Inspector General of Police in writing regarding the police officers required for security during the printing of ballot papers.
According to a statement issued by Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake, the officials of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy and the officials of the Petroleum Corporation have agreed that a decision will be made within a few days regarding the provision of fuel related to the elections.
